Natural Anise Essential Oil is steam distilled from the Pimpinella anisum plant which is related to fennel.
NOTE: Pure anise has a congealing (crystallization) point of 15ßC or 59ßF. If pure anise is exposed to temperatures below this point, the essential oil will solidify. If this happens, simply warm the anise oil until it is liquefied and shake.
Anise has a pleasant licorice taste and is commonly used to flavor Italian biscotti and other European baked goods such as Springerle, and Pizzelle cookies. It is also a popular flavor in candy.

What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are the highly concentrated, volatile, aromatic essences of plants. Most are derived by the steam distillation of fresh herbal materials, or through cold expression. Many essential oils, such as peppermint, spearmint, lemon, lime, anise, and orange are appreciated both for their aromatic qualities and as flavorings. As flavorings, these highly concentrated oils are ideal for hard candy crafting, but are also appropriate for use in flavoring other candies suchs as fondants, caramels, & marshallows. The essential oils can also flavor chocolate, cakes, cookies, pastries, frostings & royal icing. *Please note that our Cinnamon, Clove and Peppermint flavors are particularly potent. You may wish to reduce the amount used for these flavors.
